Overview

Every man wants to impress when it comes to lasting in the bedroom. Whether the person in question is your soul mate or just someone hot you met at a club, there is a lot of pressure to come through when it matters. Remember that premature ejaculation is a common problem that can be dealt with naturally. The first step is acknowledging the problem and overcoming your embarrassment in order to seek a solution. Learn what works for you and your partner.

Practice Makes Perfect

The first step to understanding how to postpone male ejaculation is to become acquainted with your own equipment. There is no shame in using masturbation to practice for the big game. While doing this, however, think about your partner's sexual experience and not just your own. Focus on how your body feels and experiment with going right to the edge of orgasm, then backing off a little. This will train your body and your mind to avoid ejaculating prematurely.

Physical

Part of the problem is purely physical. Your personal physiology is unique to you; however, there are certain strategies you can use to optimize your experience. Breathe deeply before and during sex. This will increase the nitrous oxide production in your body, allowing more blood flow to the entire body, including the penis. It will also slow things down so that you can focus on the moment and avoid getting carried away. Kegels are exercises that train the ejaculatory muscles. Flexing these muscles will cut off the flow of urine or ejaculate. Kegels can be done anytime and anywhere to develop greater control of these muscles. Tighten and hold for 10 seconds at a time. Kegels are good for establishing pelvic control, but remember that the human body cannot ejaculate when these muscles are relaxed. If you are physically able to stay conscious, you can take advantage of the second wind. Most men can go for much longer in the second round.

Mental Preparation

Much of the problem is psychological. It sounds silly, but believe in yourself and never put undue pressure on your performance. Try not to focus on your own orgasm; focus on your partner instead. Unselfishly helping your partner reach orgasm first takes the pressure off of you. Just like a good movie, pacing is everything. Think of sex as a total body experience and use foreplay as a delay of game tactic to extend it. Start slow and use playful teasing to heighten the experience. Tune in to the sights, sounds and feelings to take the emphasis off of the genitals.

Positioning

Some positions stimulate the penis more than others, and there are techniques for avoiding over-stimulation. The missionary position, though not the most exotic, gives more control. There is no harm in withdrawing for a moment when over-stimulated to take a little break. Take this time to focus on gentle touching or kissing. Try to press the penis into the clitoris and avoid powerful thrusting. Small, shallow moves will stimulate the first two to three inches of the vagina where the most sensory nerves are located. With your partner on top, there is less control, but even less stimulation of the penis. Communication is important to avoid ending the party too soon. Front to back is another good position for lasting--it provides low penis stimulation and a great degree of control.

Chemical Help

There are many herbal and pharmaceutical formulas that claim to help men with everything from sexual arousal to lasting in the bedroom. Viagra and its competitors are notorious and very effective for helping erectile dysfunction (ED). It is important to seek treatment for ED if that is in fact the real cause of your problem. The natural and herbal formulas do promote blood flow to the penis, but solid research proving their efficacy for prolonging ejaculation remains elusive. Prozac has been shown effective in treating premature ejaculation, but it may carry some unwanted side effects. Exhaust every other strategy and possibility before seeking this solution. However, Prozac has proved successful for many with severe premature ejaculation.
