The Shimano WH-R500 is an economically-priced entry level wheel set. With a weight of 1884g, the wheels are too heavy for racing but can be used as an everyday training wheel.

This aluminum 700c wheel set is compatible with eight, nine or 10 speed cassettes. The front wheel comes with 20 straight stainless steel spokes and the rear comes with 24. Both wheels have rim brakes and are compatible with clincher tires only.

Additional Info

The WH-R500 features a 108mm quick release axle in the front and a 130mm quick release axle in the back. It comes standard with a 133mm skewer in the front and a 163mm skewer in the rear.

As of August 2010, the suggested retail price for the WH-R500 wheel set is $230. The wheels and any replacement parts can be found at bicycle retailers and online at rei.com and bicyclebuys.com (See Resources).
