West of Nashville is one of Tennessee's wealthiest suburbs, Brentwood. This city has many upscale restaurants and shops, and is also an area that celebrities call home. This city is comprised of a high percentage of families that include children under the age of 18. Brentwood is a family friendly city with many activities to keep your children active.

Civitan Youth Baseball

Baseball and softball have been popular sports with both boys and girls. The Brentwood Civitan Youth Baseball and Softball leagues give your child the opportunity to gain some exercise, participate in a competitive sport, and make new friends. These are community-based teams that only allow 12 players per team so that everyone gets a chance to play. Children as young as 5 years old can start by playing tee ball and the leagues go up through 12 years of age.

The Blaze

Brentwood, through its parks and recreation department, offers football and cheerleading. The program, called Brentwood Blaze, is for the Williamson County area and is a non-profit organization. As a member of the Tennessee Youth Football Alliance, the group's focus is on safe, educational, and fun recreation for children between the ages of 5 and 14. The Blaze meets at Crockett Park.

Granny White Park

Parks also offer facilities for outdoor activities that can involve the whole family. Walking is a good way to build muscle and maintain flexibility. Granny White Park is a park with nice walking paths that are just under a mile in length, lighted tennis courts, a baseball field, athletic field, playground and a picnic pavilion.

Middle Tennessee Home Schooling Association

Homeschooling has gained popularity with more families. The Middle Tennessee Home School Association offers a youth home school fitness program. The group is for youth age 5 to 12 and meets at the YMCA in Brentwood. The first hour focuses on skills and rules of different sports and uses the sports wall and exercise facilities. During the second hour, the pool is used for teaching the basics of swimming, learning strokes, laps, and playing skill swim games. Kids should bring their swimsuit, towel, water bottle and shoes for physical education.

Currey Ingram Basketball Camp

With no school, summer is a good time for activities like camp. Camps like the Currey Ingram Basketball Camp offer a weeklong session taught by a former Belmont player. Here, kids learn the rules and fundamentals of basketball. Camp typically lasts for three hours in the morning.
