Herbs and supplements are gaining more acceptance in mainstream society after centuries of use in China and other Asian cultures, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Herbs can help relieve physical pain and stress, and can also improve memory. These herbs are natural substances that can be taken with food or drink, and many individuals believe they can help memory function dramatically.

Gingko Biloba Extract

This is probably the top herb when it comes to improving memory and overcoming memory loss. Gingko biloba will improve your blood flow, and that includes the blood that flows to your brain, which will allow your memory to function much more effectively. Gingko biloba can be taken in pill form, or ground up and sprinkled on food or in a beverage. It may take two to four months for gingko biloba to have a noticeable impact on the memory, and it must be taken in a large daily dose of between 120 and 240 mg. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, several studies have shown that the gingko biloba extract EGb 761 has had a positive impact on Alzheimer's and dementia patients.

Rosemary

Often used in cooking, rosemary also improves blood flow to the brain. It helps stimulate the brain, and that should help your memory. Rosemary will also help people who suffer from frequent headaches.

Ginseng

While this herb is known primarily for improving overall energy--especially for senior citizens--it also will help those who are looking to improve their memory. Ginseng can be taken in many forms, but when taken as a tea, it may also help you restore memory loss.
