When you swim, or sometimes even in the shower, water may sometimes enter your inner ear. Water stuck in your ear is not only incredibly annoying, but, if left untreated, may lead to an ear infection. Next time you have water in the ear, try one of these simple remedies to get that water out of there.
Create a Vacuum
Insert a soft bulb syringe gently into your ear and squeeze it a few times. You're not trying to suck the water out so much as to create a vacuum in your ear which will draw the water to the surface where it can drain out. If you do not have a syringe, try sticking your little finger in your ear (not too far), then pulling it out, sticking it back, pulling it out, etc. Do this rapidly to create a vacuum, and with luck the water will be drawn up and out.
Clean Out Your Ears
Mix a 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and plain white vinegar. Place a few drops in your ear, or rinse your ear with a syringe full of this solution. The vinegar and peroxide will help to dissolve any ear wax that may be keeping the water trapped.
Try a Blow Dryer
Hold a blow dryer up to your ear to try to dry up the trapped water. Make sure the dryer is on its lowest setting--a cool setting, if it has one. The air alone should help to dry the water, but your ear tips are very sensitive, so be careful not to burn them by using hot air.
Sleep
Place your water-filled ear on a pillow, then lay your head down and take a nap. The weight of your head and the downward-facing direction of your ear should help gravity do its trick, resulting in the water draining painlessly out of your ear as you sleep.
Hop Up and Down
If all else fails, try standing on one foot and hopping up and down while holding your head on its side, pointing your water-filled ear towards the ground. This seemingly silly remedy is surprisingly effective--not to mention entertaining for others to watch.
