Consuming too much fat can cause weight gain and medical problems, such as heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. It's also the type of fat you eat that's bad for your health. According to the Mayo Clinic, unsaturated fats from vegetable and fish sources are healthy fats. Bad fats---saturated and trans---are found in meats, dairy products and junk foods. If you've been eating too much fat lately, certain foods can help your body metabolize it better.
Lemon and Cranberry Juice
According to Ann Louise Gittleman, author of "The Fast Track One-Day Detox Diet," this mixture of juices is packed with ascorbic acid, or vitamin C. This healthy nutrient is capable of thinning and decongesting bile, a process that gives the liver a greater ability to emulsify or break down fats, states Gittleman. Vitamin C triggers production of the antioxidant glutathione, which increases the liver's detox abilities. Also, cranberry juice is an effective detoxification aid and helps to flush out toxins and fluids.
Fiber
Vegetables, fruits and whole grains are good fiber sources that help rid your body of fats. Fiber is the part of foods that your body cannot digest, such as the bran in grains, fruit pulp and the cell walls of vegetables, explains Paul Pitchford, author of "Healing with Whole Foods." Some are more effective than others at flushing fats from the body. For instance, pectin---found in foods such as apples and carrots---helps to eliminate cholesterol from the digestive tract, but wheat bran doesn't, states Pitchford. Unfortunately, most Americans don't get enough fiber in their diet. Add more of these good sources to your diet to promote fat loss.
Green Tea
This popular drink that originates from China can help to flush fat from your system. Green tea contains caffeine and theobromine, a caffeine-like compound---both of which boost metabolism and increase fat burning, according to "Natural Fat Burners." However, green tea's fat-burning abilities aren't limited to its caffeine content. In a French study published in the "American Society for Clinical Nutrition," researchers revealed that green tea's catechin polyphenols---potent antioxidants---contributed to its thermogenic, or fat-burning, abilities. Drink at least 2 cups each day to rid your body of fat, as recommended by "Natural Fat Burners."
