Long eyelashes are commonly sought after, though medications such as bimatoprost ophthalmic solution, which are available by prescription to assist your eyelashes in growing, have their fair share of side effects. If you are wishing to take a more natural approach to encouraging your eyelashes to grow, you can utilize a variety of home remedies.
Step 1
Remove your eye makeup each evening prior to going to bed. According to "Make the Most of Your Eyes" by Jo Glanville-Blackburn, leaving mascara on your eyelashes overnight can wick away their moisture, leaving them dry, brittle and prone to breakage.
Step 2
Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to your eye lashes after removing your eye makeup. Petroleum jelly can safely moisturize your eyelashes, promoting healthy growth.
Step 3
Consume at least 15 mg of vitamin E each day by eating a variety of vitamin E-rich foods including spinach, kiwi, tomatoes and sunflower seeds. According to "Foundations and Adult Health Nursing," 15 mg is the recommended daily allowance of vitamin E for adults and teenagers at least 14 years of age. Vitamin E is essential in promoting healthy skin, hair, nails and eyelashes.
