Hair thinning and loss can be a real problem for some African-American women who have used chemical or heated hair straighteners---even braiding can be tough on the hair. Sadly, there is a price to be paid for beauty. Fortunately, the price you pay does not have to be too high, as this homemade recipe can be pretty effective at reversing the damage.
Step 1
Separate the garlic into cloves, then peel each clove and squeeze in a garlic press. Collect the juice in a small bowl, measuring until you get to a tablespoonful.
Step 2
Mix the honey into the garlic juice. Set the garlic/honey mixture in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it.
Step 3
Place the chamomile in a small saucepan, then add the water. Simmer the mixture for 20 minutes or so, stirring from time to time, until you have a very strong tea. After the tea has cooked, take it off the heat and let it cool.
Step 4
Take the garlic/honey mix out of the refrigerator. Stir in the aloe vera gel and one egg yolk.
Step 5
Rub the garlic/honey/aloe/egg mix into your scalp. Wrap your head with a towel, and let the mixture sit for a half-hour.
Step 6
Wash your hair using a mild shampoo, such as baby shampoo. Use the second egg yolk in lieu of a conditioner, and rinse with warm water.
Step 7
Strain the cooled chamomile tea. Use the liquid to rinse your scalp and hair for a final time.
Tips and Warnings
- You can also try adding some garlic juice to the shampoo you normally use---garlic strengthens hair and adds body. To get rid of any lingering garlic smell, try mixing 1 tbsp. of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar in 2 cups of water and using this as a hair rinse.
