Dark circles appear under your eyes when you are too tired, have allergies, but most of all the pesky circles are hereditary. They form when your skin becomes thinner and your skin cells are damaged. As your skin becomes thinner, the elasticity disappears and your blood vessels are more prominent under your skin. Your blood vessels are what gives the circles their dark color. You can hide dark circles by getting your rest, eating the right diet and quitting bad habits.
Step 1
Boil water and brew two teabags. Drain and let cool, then place one over each eye while in a vertical position. Leave on for at least 10 minutes. Tea bags are full of the anti-inflammatory epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG. EGCG can hide your dark circles by reducing their swelling and making them less visible.
Step 2
Lie down and place ice over your eyes. Leave on your eyes for at least 10 minutes. Or, use a gel ice pack or a bag of frozen vegetable to reduce the swelling in your dark circles.
Step 3
Drink 64 oz. of water every day. When your body is dehydrated, it retains water and forms dark, puffy circles under your eyes. MayoClinic.com says you should drink at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water day to reduce the swelling and hide your dark circles.
Step 4
Stop smoking. Smoking is one of the main causes of dark circles because it leaves you with less vitamin C. When you don't have enough vitamin C, your blood vessels are more prominent, which causes dark circles.
Step 5
Eat fruits and vegetables to boost your intake vitamin C, to help keep your eyes bright. Vitamin C helps your body produce skin cells at a faster pace, which hides your dark circles. Each at least one serving of fruits and one serving of vegetables at every meal, like spinach, oranges or bananas.
Step 6
Get at least seven hours of sleep each night, advises the National Sleep Foundation. When your body is sleep deprived, your skin cells cannot recover from the abuse they get during the day and you cannot hide your dark eye circles.
