Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness, one in which the mind is open to suggestion. Hypnotherapy is the use of this state as a means of resolving compulsive patterns of thought and behavior, such as those often associated with weight gain. By operating in accordance with principle workings of the mind, you can let go of excessive weight through hypnotherapy.

Step 1

Find a quiet room where you will be free from distraction for at least 20 minutes. Begin to breathe deeply and slowly. Do this until you notice a sense of comfort building within your chest. Focus on that sensation, until it begins to grow. Envision it spreading outward, until you find that comfort penetrating every cell in your body.

Step 2

Imagine that you are now standing in the center of a large room. There is nothing visible except a descending staircase immediately before you. Move forward and begin to step downward into the dark space below. With each descending step, count one number backward, from 20 to one. When you reach the bottom floor, you will be standing in the realm of your subconscious mind.

Step 3

Envision a personal place of solace. This may be a beach, forest clearing or any environment where you feel most comfortable. Absorb your surroundings completely. Notice the bright, rich colors that appear. Listen closely to any sounds that emerge and feel the temperature of the air against your skin.

Step 4

Picture yourself standing somewhere up ahead, looking as you will at your ideal weight and shape. Observe how this version of yourself appears to be vibrant full of energy. Move toward your new body and step inside. Observe whatever changes you perceive. Notice how you think and feel. Stay inside for several minutes, ingraining these sensations within the fabric of your mind and body and sensing whatever insights are offered to you at the subconscious level.

Step 5

Step back outside your body. Retrace your steps, back through your personal sanctuary, until you have again reached the staircase. Begin going upward, moving more toward your normal state of awareness with each step. Upon reaching the higher level, allow your thoughts to naturally come back to to the present, as you breathe normally and open your eyes. Carry on with the rest of your day, normally, allowing your deeper mind to arrange the resources necessary to create what it is you desire.

Tips and Warnings

  • Execute the routine once each day, either upon wakening or just before sleep. Each time, fully immerse yourself into the visualizations, allowing every sensation to run through your neurology. Set an anchor. This is a physical trigger that will stimulate a positive emotional response when needed. For instance, while you are bathing in the experience of being the new you, press together the thumb and forefinger of one hand. This action will attach itself to the unconscious experience of feeling fit and healthy. When you enter a situation that normally draws you toward excessive or reckless eating, repeat the gesture and you will immediately enter a more resourceful state of mind.
  • Expect success. Chronic skepticism, doubt or disbelief can easily dislodge your efforts and sabotage the therapy.
