According to MayoClinic.com, freckles are small, flat pigmented spots on the skin that often appear red, tan or brown in color, and they occur on areas of the skin exposed to the sun over time. While freckles are natural, some people that have them may feel uncomfortable about their presence. Luckily, there are some natural treatments that can help to get rid of freckles, according to Susan E. Worwood, author of "Essential Aromatherapy: A Pocket Guide to Essential Oils and Aromatherapy."
Step 1
Combine ½ tsp. bergamot essential oil, ½ tsp. cedarwood essential oil, ½ tsp. eucalyptus essential oil, ¼ tsp. lime essential oil, ¼ tsp. mandarin essential oil, ¼ tsp. lemon essential oil and ½ cup jojoba oil in a small dark-colored bottle with a tight-fitting top.
Step 2
Cover the bottle, and shake it vigorously for 20 seconds to combine the essential oils and jojoba oil.
Step 3
Pour a small amount of the essential oil mixture onto a clean cotton ball. Gently dab the cotton ball on the freckled skin, and leave the remaining oil on for 30 minutes.
Step 4
Rinse your skin with cool, clean water. Wash with a gentle cleanser, and apply your regular moisturizer.
Step 5
Use this treatment twice per day, once in the morning and once again before bed. Discontinue use if the essential oil mixture causes any irritation, redness, swelling or itching.
Step 6
Store unused portions of this mixture in the refrigerator for 90 days or in a cool, dark place for 60 days. Throw the mixture away after the allotted time.
Tips and Warnings
- Test this mixture in the crook of your elbow or the inside of your thigh before applying it to your face or other very visible part of your body. Though an allergic reaction to essential oils or carrier oils is rare, it can happen.
