Hairstyles for a Long Face

Hairstyles for long faces seek to either disguise the length of your face or add width to balance out your face. Many people with long faces also have a long, elegant neck that creates even more options from which to choose when styling hair.

Disguise the Length

Consider adding bangs to your overall look. While this won't work for everyone, it's particularly effective for those whose facial length is accentuated by a high hairline. In this case, add bangs that either go straight across your brow, so that your facial length is significantly shortened, or add wispy bangs and a side part to reduce the symmetry and length of your face.

Add Width

If bangs don't suit, you can add layers to expand the width of your hair. This helps balance out the length of your face. Do this by adding layers to your style, releasing either natural waves or curls that further widen your hairstyle.

Short Hair

If you have long, elegant facial features and a long neck, consider a shorter hair cut. This will add width, and also play up your elegant neck, removing attention from the length of your face. A short, wedge cut is ideal at not only balancing out the length of your face, but also highlighting your neck.

Long Hair

If your neck isn't your favorite feature, wear your hair longer. Add plenty of texture to the style, with either layers or natural curls. Avoid wearing long hair completely straight, as this only emphasizes the length of your face. Also consider wearing your hair with a side part as it creates asymmetry and helps minimizes the length of your face.
