It is important and practical for everyone to learn how to swim. However, if you live in a coastal community, where coming into contact with water is almost inevitable, having the ability to swim is paramount. Also, knowing how to swim opens the doors to several fun and healthy opportunities--joining a swim team, playing at a water park and attending pool parties. No matter what age you are, there are several swim schools and classes throughout Miami, Florida, where learning and refining your water skills are encouraged.

Babies

The threat of drowning is real to infants and young children who haven't learned to swim. There are several schools in Miami that work to prevent this all-too-common tragedy.

Hurricane Aquatics at the University of Miami offers Infant Swimming Resource. Certified ISR instructors teach infants and children ages 6 months to 4 years old the self-rescue process.

Born 2 Swim Aquatic Academy also teaches young children how to roll and float. Babies are buoyant, and they can be taught to bring their faces out of the water if they fall in unexpectedly. Born 2 Swim does not teach baby breathing, however.

Experienced Educators

Miami's swimming schools are home to some of the country's most experienced instructors, and to ensure that you and your child's swimming lessons are conducted professionally, it's important to research the teachers.

Guards for Life's staff boasts more than 20 years of combined experience teaching the community about water safety.

Hurricane Aquatics is headed by the University of Miami's swimming coach, diving instructor and a few other highly qualified staff members.

Bubbles Swimming School's staff has physical education degrees and are members of the World Aquatic Baby Conference and the National Swimming School Association.

Miscellaneous Lessons

Some swimming lessons are taught with a goal other than stroking in mind, especially in Miami.

Ocean fun is common off of Florida's coast. Born 2 Swim Aquatic Academy teaches snorkeling lessons to children 18 months of age and older. Not only does snorkeling help improve your swimming skills and confidence in the water, it is great exercise and can make family vacations to the beach a blast.

Guards for Life offers both junior lifeguard and lifeguard training and certification. Instructors, including EMTs and other certified lifeguards, help people train to be CPR experts and certified Red Cross lifeguards.

Fun Lessons

Many swim schools in Miami understand that learning to swim should be more than just practice and work. That's why several offer clubs, swim parties and fun classes.

Swim Kids Swimming School's staff helps you throw your child a pool party that's both safe and fun. Parents select a pool, and the staff makes the arrangements.

Bubbles Swimming School also offers the option of lifeguard ready, safe pool parties.

Born 2 Swim Aquatic Academy features several fun-focused swim clubs. Sisi's Funday Club teaches children ages 2 to 4 to swim while allowing them to engage in friendly competitions with each other. Family Fun Fridays are also available, and the entire family is invited to participate in the lesson together.

Adults

Swimming isn't a skill necessary for just babies and young children to have; adults, too, should know how to swim.

Most swim schools in Miami offer some sort of training for adults as well as youths. Bubbles Swimming School offers both private and semi-private adult swimming lessons. Hurricane Aquatics, Born 2 Swim and Guards for Life all offer adult swimming classes.
