How to Use Golf Nets for Beginners

A golf net is a great way for both beginner and advanced golfers to practice their swings, work on different types of shots and keep their swing sharp between rounds. If you have the space indoors to have a golf net in your garage or basement, you can practice your swing any time of day, year-round. Over time, you will end up saving money on the money you would spend at a driving range, all from the convenience of your home.

Golf Nets for Beginners

Step 1

Decide on where you are going to put your golf net. If you are putting it outside, you will need to have an area where you can take a full swing without hitting any trees or wires, and where the occasional errant golf ball won't damage anything too valuable. If you elect to place the net inside, you are going to need a place with a ceiling high enough for your swing.

Step 2

Stand a few feet from the golf net. You will want to find a distance that is far enough away so that you do not hit the net on your follow through yet close enough where even if you shank a ball, it will still hit the net. You probably will want to invest in a golf mat as well, so that you have a place you tee up your ball and not worry about divots or damage to your indoor flooring.

Step 3

Place the ball on a tee and swing away. You can focus on your mechanics, as you are able to take as many swings as you would like. You can work to make sure your weight shifts appropriately, your hips rotate and your follow through ends up where you would like it.

Step 4

Practice with each club in your bag. You never know which club you might need on a particular hole, so it is important to be comfortable with every club you have. Although hitting into a net will not give you an idea of how far you can hit each club, it will give you a good idea of how clean you can strike the ball, if the contact feels flush and it promotes the muscle memory your body gains by the repetition of swinging the club.

Tips and Warnings

  • Use real golf balls on the tee to closely simulate a real round on the golf course.
