Although diet plans may impose different restrictions and requirements on your daily food intake, successful weight loss boils down to one factor: consuming fewer calories than you expend. If you exercise more frequently, you may find that you can eat more calories and still lose weight. The plethora of diet plans should allow you to find one that works well with your lifestyle, as some include meal delivery, allow frequent meals, don't restrict carbohydrates or don't cost anything. Before beginning any diet plan, speak with a medical professional.

Atkins Diet

The Atkins Diet is a well-known diet plan that has its origins in the 1970s, when Dr. Robert Atkins wrote the book, "The New Diet Revolution," explains weight loss website Every Diet. The Atkins Diet involves four different phases, but in each, carbohydrate intake is carefully controlled. Every Diet notes that the diet may produce fast results, but that the long-term safety of low-carbohydrate diets is not clear.

The South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet is a diet plan that involves several phases and some carbohydrate restriction. It is similar to the Atkins Diet in its carbohydrate restrictions, but also includes more low-fat foods. This diet may be convenient because South Beach Diet products are available in grocery stores.

The Blood Type Diet

The Blood Type Diet claims that people are genetically predisposed to succeed on different diet plans based upon their blood type. According to the official website of Dr. Peter D'Adamo, founder of the Blood Type Diet, users of this plan experience weight loss, stress reduction and energy increases.

eDiets

eDiets is an online diet service that provides nationwide delivery service and a variety of diet plans. According to Every Diet, eDiets offers customized meal plans as well as plans for low-fat, high-fiber, Mediterranean and a variety of other styles. eDiets has a weekly charge of $4.49, but provides access to fitness videos, notes Every Diet.

Medifast Diet

The Medifast Diet is a meal replacement plan, according to weight loss website Diets In Review.com. This means you'll be consuming a lot of high-protein shakes, nutrition bars and soups. Diets In Review.com notes that there is a variety of food options on Medifast and that meals are delivered to you. However, the website also notes that it may be hard to transition back to regular food and keep weight off.

Nutrisystem

Nutrisystem is a diet plan that offers meal delivery service with a variety of meal options. Unlike other meal plans and delivery services, Nutrisystem does not offer different diet styles, just one main diet plan.

Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers is a diet plan that involves weekly check-ins at a Weight Watchers group meeting. Weight Watchers calculates point values for food, based on nutritional factors and gives points for exercise. This diet gives you the freedom to choose what you eat, as long as you remain within your daily point totals.

The 3 Day Diet

The 3 Day Diet is what it sounds like--a three-day meal plan that claims it can help you lose 10 lbs., according to The Diet Channel. This diet recommends specific foods and does not teach healthy eating habits. The Diet Channel calls this diet "a very poor choice for anyone looking to lose weight."
