Vicks VapoRub is a popular product used to clear the nasal passages when an individual has a cold. Vicks BabyRub, a children's version of the adult product, may be used on infants age 3 months and older. Vicks VapoRub should never be used on children under the age of 2 years, reports MSNBC, because respiratory distress has occurred in children who are hypersensitive to the product. Vicks BabyRub may be rubbed onto a baby's body to help relieve congestion and promote better sleep.

Step 1

Rub a thin layer of Vicks BabyRub onto your baby's feet at naptime or bedtime. You may coat the bottom of the feet only, or the entire foot with a thin layer of BabyRub, depending on the severity of the symptoms.

Step 2

Place a pair of socks on your baby's feet to keep the BabyRub from rubbing off onto her clothes and crib sheets. If the baby wears a footed sleeper, it is still a good idea to place socks on the baby to keep the ointment from coating the inside of the sleeper feet.

Step 3

Place the baby in the crib with a pillow underneath the top of the mattress to elevate the mattress and allow the congestion to drain. Place the pillow underneath the mattress and not inside the crib. Soft objects such as pillows are not recommended inside of cribs, as they increase the risk of asphyxiation, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
