Michael Thurmond created a diet plan called the "Six Week Body Makeover." This plan is meant to help you change the way your body burns fat so that you begin to lose weight more efficiently. You will have to make changes to your lifestyle such as dining out less, eating more often during the day and adding small amounts of exercise to your life. Please consult a doctor before beginning any diet or fitness plan.
Body Blueprint
The main idea behind Thurmond's plan is to create a "Body Blueprint." Using his book or a quiz online, you make note of where your body stores fat and what kind of metabolism you have. This allows you to create a customized eating plan that will provide your body with the right foods to eat to help you get the body you want. There are five different eating plans on this diet based on body type, and you will follow the one chosen by using the Body Blueprint system.
Eliminating Salt
You must eliminate salt on this diet. Salt makes your body retain water and can bring weight loss efforts to a halt. Instead of salt, only use pepper on your foods. You can also try pre-mixed seasonings found in the spice aisle of your local grocery store that contain no sodium. These will help you add loads of flavor to your food without the added salt.
Eliminating Dairy
There is no dairy allowed on Thurmond's plan. He believes that most dairy products are too high in fat and sugar, and have a negative effect on the body's metabolism. If you are concerned about not getting enough calcium, take a calcium supplement. You can also get calcium from fruits and vegetables such as broccoli, peas and bok choy.
Frequent Eating
You must eat every two or three hours on Thurmond's plan. This allows your body to burn food evenly throughout the day, which helps support your metabolism. It will also prevent you from becoming too hungry and cheating on your diet. Be sure to bring enough food for the day when you go to work or out for outings. Limit dining out, but when you do, be sure to order food without salt.
Exercise
Exercise is an essential part of this diet program. Exercise helps your body burn fat and calories, and build lean muscle tissue. However, you don't need to spend hours in the gym or engage in activities that make you feel totally exhausted. In fact, Thurmond suggests that around 20 minutes a day will produce results. However, the American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes a day.
