Green Tea Supplements for Weight Loss

Although many herbal weight-loss supplements are on the market, few of them have scientific research backing their claims. Research does indicate that green tea extract may be effective in spurring weight loss, although success is not guaranteed. A study from the February 2008 issue of the journal "Physiology & Behavior" found that 12 weeks of green tea extract supplementation increased fat burning and energy expenditure and reduced weight. You may find that a supplement containing other ingredients in addition to green tea may be more effective. Before beginning any supplement or diet regimen, you should refer to a medical professional.

Anabolic Agents XNR-Burn

Anabolic Agents XNR-Burn is a weight-loss supplement that contains green tea as part of a blend of ingredients that may aid in weight loss. This supplement includes stimulants such as guarana, caffeine and coffee bean extract, which may help increase your energy levels, even on a reduced-calorie diet. It also contains vitamin B12, which the National Institutes of Health explains may help prevent against fatigue, weakness and other conditions.

Natrol Cravex

Natrol Cravex is another supplement that contains multiple ingredients in addition to green tea extract to help accelerate weight loss. Among these ingredients are calcium, chromium, hydroxycitric acid and the common stimulant caffeine. As research from the December 2004 issue of the "American Journal of Physiology: Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology" explains, hydroxycitric acid has been shown to reduce body weight and food intake in rats, and may also impact insulin levels. However, evidence that hydroxycitric acid may aid in weight loss attempts in humans is lacking.

NOW Green Tea Extract

NOW Green Tea Extract differs from other weight-loss supplements because it contains only green tea extract and vitamin C. This can be beneficial, as you can obtain a more concentrated dose without ingesting other stimulants. The vitamin C may also assist in your weight-loss efforts--the National Institutes of Health and National Library of Medicine explain that consuming too little vitamin C can lead to a slowed metabolism and possible weight gain.

Olympian Labs Green Tea Extract

Olympian Labs Green Tea Extract contains no ingredients other than green tea extract. Although this means you won't benefit from other weight-loss ingredients, it prevents you from ingesting potentially dangerous ingredients found in various supplements. In order to maximize your chances of weight loss with green tea alone, begin exercising regularly; research from the February 2009 issue of the "Journal of Nutrition" found that consumption of green tea extract improved losses of belly fat in conjunction with exercise.
