According to Jeanine Downie, M.D., a dermatologist and director of Image Dermatology in Montclair, New Jersey, sunblocks, antioxidants, glycolic acids, retinoids and night time products that encourage cell turnover can help reverse the signs of sun damage. She recommends several skin care lines that can help with fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots.

Neutrogena

In a 2007 article written for MSNBC.com, Downie stresses that its never too late to start using a broad spectrum sunscreen, which protects skin from both UVA and UVB rays. Many fine lines are due to the damage caused to cells by the effects of these harmful rays.

Neutrogena's Suncare with Helioplex is a broad spectrum, ultralight formula with an SPF of 100+. The Dry-Touch technology leaves a non-shiny finish for everyday use. Neutrogena has several other types of sunscreens as well.

Downie also recommends retinoids, a form of vitamin A, to reduce the appearance of fine lines and sun damage. Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream contains Retinol to work under the skin's surface to repair and reduce wrinkles. Retinol also helps reduce the appearance of dark spots that can occur with overexposure to the sun.

Neutrogena's Visibly Firm Night Cream contains copper, an ingredient recommended by Downie to improve skin's elasticity and firmness, reducing the rough, slack appearance of sun-damaged skin.

Neutrogena products can be purchased on-line and at major grocery and drug stores nationwide.

Aveeno

Downie recommends Aveeno's Positively Ageless Night Cream with exclusive Natural Shiitake Complex, an antioxidant that works with skin's natural renewal process, for a night treatment that offers deeper penetration and a more therapeutic effect.

Aveeno has a full line of anti-aging products including daily moisturizers with sunscreen, rejuvenating serums, daily exfoliating cleansers and lifting and firming creams. Aveeno also has cleansing pads and an exfoliating warming scrub that can help remove dead skin cells, revealing softer, smoother skin. Exfoliation can help minimize fine lines, sun spots, and wrinkles.

M.D. Forte

Downie also recommends M.D. Forte, a powerful skin-care line that requires a prescription from a dermatologist, for patients whose skin needs more powerful ingredients than can be found in over-the-counter products. M.D. Forte's products for photo-damaged skin include cleansers and treatments that use alpha-hydroxy acids to remove the sun-damaged top layer of skin cells, revealing the younger, healthier cells underneath.

M.D. Forte's line for photo-damaged skin includes two types of protection products, four types of cleansers and six types of rehydration creams and lotions.
