A bladder infection is caused by bacteria entering the urinary system. Bacteria enter the urethra and travel through the urinary system, often to the bladder and kidneys. Signs and symptoms an infection is present include the constant urge to urinate, as well as burning and discomfort when urinating. Urine may contain blood and bacteria; a strong odor may be present. Painful abdominal discomfort is felt in the lower stomach region. A variety of homeopathic natural remedies may help in curing bladder infections.
Hydration
Drink lots of water and clear liquids to flush out existing bacteria. Avoid soft drinks, caffeinated liquids and citrus juices. Check urine to see if urine color begins to lighten after consuming several drinks.
Vitamin C
Take vitamin C tablets in the evening prior to bedtime---a recommended dose is 500 mg. The vitamin will increase the acidity in the urine, slowing the bacterial growth.
Hot Compress
Place a heating pad or hot compress to the lower abdominal area. Use throughout the day to relieve tension and comfort.
Loose Clothing
Wear loose fitting clothes for relief. Tight fighting jeans and clothing can add stress and discomfort to the body.
Berry Juice
Consume sugar-free cranberry juice or other berry juices. The juices contain condensed tannins. According to The University of Pittsburgh, the tannins prevent E.coli bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract. E.coli is one of the main causes of bladder infections. Avoid drinks that contain artificial sweeteners, as they may continue to irritate the urinary tract.
Sitz Baths
Alternate soaking in hot and cold baths. Soak in a warm bath for two to five minutes, alternating with a cool bath for the same amount of time. Switch between bath tubs for three cycles. Rotate cool and warm compresses to the abdominal area if two bath tubs are not available.
