What To Look For

There is almost as much tradition surrounding the baseball uniform as there is for the game itself. The baseball uniform includes at least a jersey, pants, cap and baseball socks. In addition to the color and design of a uniform, you should look for a uniform that fits comfortably and is well-made. The seams should be securely stitched, and the fabric should be durable enough to stand up to wear and tear.

Common Pitfalls

Don't scrimp on quality when shopping for a baseball uniform. You will slide, swing, sweat and run in your uniform, and you need it to last at least a whole season. Don't buy a uniform that is too large, because it will be hard for you to swing, throw and run freely. Fitted caps usually are better than adjustable caps, which have a plastic strap on the back of the hat that can sometimes break.

Where To Buy

Complete baseball uniforms are available both online and at retail sporting goods stores. If you are part of a team, you might get a better price if your coach orders uniforms for the entire team rather than each player ordering his uniform individually. If you are a fan rather than a player, most professional and many college teams sell replicas of their uniforms online or at their shops.

Cost

Complete baseball uniforms range widely in price, with much depending on the manufacturer and ability to customize. Generally, a jerseys and pants cost anywhere from $50 to around $100. You can buy baseball socks for as little as $8 a pair, and many players buy several pairs to get through a season. Caps usually cost $10 to $20 range.

Accessories

In addition to a uniform, baseball players often buy long-sleeve undershirts for cold weather and sliding shorts to protect their legs under their uniform pants. Some uniforms require a belt. Male players need a protective cup, and all players need a baseball glove or mitt. Plus, there is a wide range of other accessories, ranging from eye black to sweat bands.
