With the number of overweight Americans rising, people have tried many ways to shed unwanted pounds. Many have tried an intervention that has been used to address a variety of addictions, compulsions and associated issues: hypnosis. According to the Mayo Clinic, Vanderbilt University and other respected sources, no scientific evidence exists to support the efficacy of hypnosis in weight loss.
Enjoying Weight Loss
The creators of this program claim that in order to take advantage of popular existing diets such as Ornish, Atkins, the Zone Diet and Weight Watchers, people must stick to them closely and that only one in four does so in practice. They claim that "hypnosis is by far the safest, most researched, and effective way" for people to adhere to their chosen diet plans. They extol the various virtues of weight loss, list a number of testimonials from satisfied customers and promise long-term results in 20 minutes a day. Hypnosis is offered via a set of four CDs at a total cost of $119.99, and satisfaction is guaranteed.
Tom Nicoli Hypnosis
This program offers hypnosis by either CD or MP3 format; the site includes an audio sample. Rather than touting hypnosis as a means of helping people stick to established diet plans, Nicoli's promise is that users need only "sit comfortably undisturbed for only 25 minutes a day with a pair of headphones on and drift off to a deep relaxation and do nothing." The program is intended to tap deeply into users' subconscious minds, and unlike most sites of its kind includes no testimonials from clients. Nicoli distances himself from the idea of "diets." The CD kit costs $73.50 and the MP3 version costs $57.96; these and other products include the standard money-back guarantee.
Neuro-VISION
Like every program of its kind, Neuro-VISION--which focuses on visual rather than auditory stimuli as a means of hypnosis--purportedly succeeds where other programs fail in that it takes advantage of an "alha-wave" phenomenon that's at its greatest while the person hoping to slim down is watching television. In stark contrast to the advisories set forth by the Mayo Clinic and others, program founder Alan Densky says scientific research proves that hypnosis helps people lose two to 16 times more weight than would otherwise result. There are various client testimonials and the total cost in the program is $129.97, which Densky claims is a savings of $156.51 over the true value.
