Prevent your baby from accidental poisoning or other hazards by baby proofing the drawers in your homes. Plastic drawer latches prevent young children from opening drawers by hooking the drawer closed until you release the latch to open it. Manufacturers of such latches make these products sturdy enough to withstand tugs and pulls when installed securely.

Step 1

Position the two parts of the drawer latch on the inside of the drawer. The larger piece should set against the inside middle of the drawer front while the second piece should sit on the cabinet where it will connect to the first piece when the drawer closes.

Step 2

Drill holes for each piece's screw holes after determining where you will place the latch on the drawer and cabinet.

Step 3

Use the drill to screw the two parts of the latch to the drawer with the provided screws.

Step 4

Shut the drawer to test if the drawer latches shut properly. To open the door, pull the drawer open as far as it will extend and press on the latch to unlock it and fully open the drawer.
