Beaumont, located in Jefferson County, about 30 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico and south of the dense pine forests of eastern Texas, offers campers a variety of options from tent camping sites to full-service RV resorts. Bordered on the east by the Neches River and the Pine Island Bayou to the north, the Beaumont area is rich in history and offers attractions and activities that will keep you busy from sunup to sundown.

Where to Camp

Beaumont RV Park offers large pull-through and back-in sites with full hookups. Amenities include nature trails to explore and an 8-acre spring-fed lake for canoeing or catch-and-release fishing. The East Lucas RV Park welcomes RVers and tent campers alike and offers shaded sites with concrete patios and runners. Located in Ford Park, seven miles from downtown, Gulf Coast RV Resort has large pull-through sites with amenities that include a pool, playground and exercise room.

Activities

The Beaumont area is home to 6 golf courses, including Belle Oaks, a regulation par-72 course and the Henry Homberg Golf Course, Beaumont's municipal 18-hole course. If nine holes is what you're looking for, Bayou Din offers you three different 9-hole layouts. There are eight hiking trails, ranging from half-mile loops to an 18-mile Big Sandy Creek Trail, at Big Thicket Natural Reserve. Riverfront Park in downtown Beaumont offers walking trails, a playground and access to boating on the Neches River.

Attractions

When visiting the Beaumont area in March, you can participate in the Gusher Marathon, which includes a 5K, half-marathon and full marathon. On a walking tour of the city, you can visit the city's large fire hydrant, antique fire trucks and equipment at the Fire Museum of Texas or view the interactive exhibits at the Edison Museum dedicated to Thomas Alva Edison and his inventions.

State and National Parks

Village Creek State Park, 15 miles north of Beaumont in Lumberton, Texas, offers 16 walk-in tent campsites as well as 25 sites that can accommodate either tents, trailers or RVs. Amenities include electricity, water, fire rings and restroom facilities with showers.You'll also find a children's playground, trails for hiking and mountain-biking and access to water for swimming, canoeing and other water-related activities. There are no developed campsites within Big Thicket Natural Preserve, but several of its units are open for backpacking. Camping is allowed on sandbars on the Neches River. When pitching a tent, campsites must be at least 200 feet from trails and roads and at least 100 feet from any water source.

Family Friendly Campgrounds

Hidden Lake RV Resort offers family friendly camping with access to a lake for swimming, boating and fishing. Its campsites can accommodate recreational vehicles up to 80 feet in length and offer 30- and 50-amp connections, sewer service and water connections. On-site amenities include restrooms with hot showers and flush toilets, as well as a coin-operated laundromat. The Boomtown U.S.A. RV Resort, located 10 miles northeast of Beaumont in Rose City, offers campers water access on a 100-acre spring-fed lake and a water park with three slides. The campground offers one hundred 30-or 50-amp full hookup RV sites, cabins and a tenting area.
