Large pores are typical for many people and are a result of heredity, according to the University of Michigan's Health Services. Although the size of your pores can't be changed, proper skin care is the key to keeping your pores clean and clear, which will make the size of your pores less noticeable. A variety of homemade remedies can help to eliminate the oil, bacteria and grime that make even small pores look large and unsightly.

Pore Tightening Mask

Step 1

Break 1 egg into a small mixing bowl, then whip with a fork until the egg is frothy. Stir in 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and 1 tablespoon of honey that has been allowed to warm to room temperature. Mix well.

Step 2

Wash your face with a mild cleanser formulated for your skin type, and then rinse with warm water. Remove the excess water with a soft towel, leaving your skin slightly moist.

Step 3

Smooth the facial mixture onto your face. Allow the facial to dry for 15 to 20 minutes, then remove the facial with a washcloth and warm water. Splash your face with cool water to close your pores.

Citrus Toner

Step 1

Cut half of one lemon and half of one small orange into thin slices. A lime can be substituted for the lemon, if desired. Place the sliced citrus fruits into a blender or food processor container.

Step 2

Add 3/4 cup rubbing alcohol. Blend until the citrus is pulverized. Lay a piece of cheesecloth over a mesh strainer, and then pour the mixture through the strainer into a clean glass jar.

Step 3

Cover the jar and store the citrus toner in the refrigerator. Apply the toner to areas with enlarged pores using a cotton ball or a cotton cosmetic pad after cleansing your face or applying a facial.

Scrub for Enlarged Pores

Step 1

Combine 1 tablespoon of warm honey and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar in a cup. Stir in a few drops of lemon or lime juice.

Step 2

Wash your face, and then apply the scrub to your forehead, chin, cheeks or other problem areas. Massage the scrub into your skin for two to three minutes, and then rinse with warm water.

Step 3

Apply the scrub once or twice every week to remove oil and bacteria from enlarged pores.
