Youth Group Activities in Murfreesboro

Murfreesboro is a mid-size city in Tennessee that offers plenty of activities for youths in the area. Kids and teens in the city can visit parks, museums, golf courses, wetlands, fitness centers or art centers. They can also participate in a variety of youth group activities ranging from sports teams to triathlons.

Youth Football Teams

The Murfreesboro Blue Raiders Youth Football and Cheerleading League offers kids and teens in Murfreesboro the chance to take part in athletic and team-building activities outside of school. The league is open to youths aged 5 to 12. Those football players aged 5 to 6 are eligible to take part in the Pee-Wee Division, those aged 7 to 8 are eligible for the C Division, those aged 9 to 10 are eligible for the B Division and those aged 11 to 12 are eligible for the A Division. Youths in the football and cheerleading program learn the basic skills and rules of the two sports.

Youth Soccer Clubs

In addition to football clubs, Murfreesboro, Tennessee is also home to soccer clubs for youths who are interested in that sport. The Murfreesboro Soccer Club and the Murfreesboro Select Soccer Programs both have youth clubs for kids and teens who would like to play competitive soccer. Both programs sponsor tournaments and competitions, and provide youths with a chance to learn the rules of the game, increase their soccer skills and abilities, and develop sportsmanship qualities and teamwork skills.

Kids Triathlon

The Try Boro Kids Triathlon is an annual competition hosted each year in Murfreesboro, sponsored by organizations such as the Center for Physical Activity and Health in Youth and Middle Tennessee State University. The junior triathlon for kids aged 7 to 10 includes a 100-yard swim, a 2.4-mile bike ride and a half-mile run. The senior triathlon course for kids aged 11 to 14 features a 200-yard swim, 4.8-mile bike ride and a mile-long run.

Boys and Girls Clubs

The Boys and Girls Club of Rutherford County, Tennessee has a location in Murfreesboro at the Murfreesboro Teen Center, commonly known as The Club. In addition to offering sports leagues in basketball and flag football, the Boys and Girls Club offers health and life skills courses for youths in Murfreesboro. The health skills courses cover resistance training, skills mastery, fitness education and gardening.

Dance Camps

Active youths in Murfreesboro who aren't interested in participating in sports can take advantage of dance groups and camps in the city. The Murfreesboro Teen Dance Camp takes place for one week each summer, and in 2010 required a flat fee of $75. Students enrolled in the dance camp participate in dance workshops and choreography sessions with like-minded youths.
