Acne normally effects people most in their teenage years but it is not uncommon for people to suffer from it well into adulthood. Zits and pimples are names used to describe the whitehead. This is a type of acne where the pore has been blocked with oils, dirt and debris, sealed over and become inflamed. Although there are a plethora of products on the market to clear up and prevent these pimples, home remedies can be used to do the same job at a cheaper cost.
Step 1
Cleanse the surface layers of the skin by applying an aloe vera gel or juice. This has antibacterial qualities, which will help remove oils and dirt that can cause infection within the pores. It is also often recommended as natural herb to promote healing.
Step 2
Open the pores of the skin by steaming your face over a bowl of hot water. This will widen the skins pores and make treatments more easily absorbed.
Step 3
Exfoliate and heal with a honey and oatmeal mask. Prepare the oatmeal as you would to eat but then allow to cool before adding the honey. Apply the mask to the pimpled area. Leave on overnight if possible but for at least 30 minutes. Oatmeal acts as an exfoliate while honey has antibacterial and natural healing qualities.
Step 4
Rub ice cubes on the pimples area. The extreme cold will help reduce redness and swelling by limiting the blood flow to the area.
Step 5
Use olive oil for moisturizing. It will seep into the pores and help the collagen, which the body uses in its natural healing process, to restore suppleness to the skin. Suppleness can be reduced with larger outbreaks of acne and the scarring that it can cause.
Tips and Warnings
- Aloe vera can also be applied in pulp form. Tea tree oil, rose water and lemon juice can be used instead of aloe vera as cleansing tonics. You can take a warm bath or shower instead of using a bowl of hot water to steam pores. Honey can be applied to a dressing to reduce mess.
- These home remedies can cause skin irritation for some skin types. It is best to speak with your doctor to discuss their uses and effectiveness. A doctor may recommend the use of over-the-counter products containing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid which have been noted as effective treatments for acne, according to MayoClinc.
