Wherever you put pressure on your skin, calluses and corns can form. The most common place for corns to form is on the feet. Hard corns form from layer upon layer of thick-callused skin. Unlike hard corns found on the outside of the foot, Cigna explains that soft corns form in between the toes where the callused skin remains moist with perspiration. Soft corns can cause discomfort, which is easily relieved by their removal.

Step 1

Fill a large basin half-full with warm water. Add ¼ cup of Epsom salts to the warm water for extra softening.

Step 2

Slip your bare feet into the warm foot bath. Allow your feet to soak for at least 15 minutes. The longer you soak your feet the softer your skin will become, making the soft corns easier to remove.

Step 3

Remove your feet from the foot bath. Pat each foot dry with an absorbent towel.

Step 4

Rub each of the soft corns with a pumice stone. Run the pumice stone back and forth over the corns, removing as much of the callused skin as possible.

Tips and Warnings

  • If you do not have a basin for soaking, use your bathtub or even a clean bucket to soak your feet. You may have to soak your feet every few weeks and repeat the process to prevent regrowth.
  • Pharmacies sell medicated pads that can help soften and remove soft corns without all the soaking and filing. However, these medicated pads are not for everyone. In fact, people who suffer from low vision, poor circulation or diabetes should consult a physician before use. Never cut or use sharp objects to remove your soft corns. Cutting the corns too close to the skin can cause injury. If the cutting tool is not sterile, the injury can lead to infection. If you have more soft corns than you can handle, ask your doctor for help.

Things You'll Need
