A treadmill is an effective workout tool that helps you burn fat and lose weight while building strength and endurance. Having a treadmill at home is very convenient, as it is available for you to work out on at any time and in any weather. Keeping your Spirit treadmill in working condition could require you to troubleshoot some of the different issues that may arise and cause the treadmill to become ineffective. An ineffective treadmill could be unsafe and hinder your workouts.
Step 1
Turn off your Spirit treadmill and unplug it from the wall.
Step 2
Find the rear roller adjustment bolts at the end of the treadmill on each side of the walking belt. Insert an Allen wrench into the right roller adjustment bolt and turn the bolt a quarter turn clockwise to correct a walking belt that shifts left or right of center. Plug the treadmill into the wall outlet and turn it on, allowing the treadmill to run for a few minutes to center the belt. If the belt fails to center, repeat the procedure until correct.
Step 3
Plug the treadmill into the wall outlet and confirm that the safety tether cord magnet is in the correct position on the console. Verify that the circuit breaker button on the front of the treadmill walking deck is pushed in. If these items are disconnected or are out of proper position, it could cause the console display to not light.
Step 4
Set the console clock and verify that it runs. If the clock fails to run, the motor might not be working.
Step 5
Contact an electrician to verify that your household current is strong enough at the outlet to operate your treadmill, or have an electrician install a dedicated circuit near your treadmill. Operating the treadmill on less than 110 volts, or operating it on an extension cord, could cause the treadmill to operate at speeds of only up to 7 mph.
Step 6
Operate the treadmill on a grounded circuit. A ungrounded outlet could cause the console to turn off suddenly when touched. Have an electrician install a grounded outlet if one doesn't exist where you operate the treadmill.
Step 7
Apply Spirit lubricant to the deck of the treadmill underneath the walking belt and walk on the belt at 2 to 3 mph for 3 to 5 minutes to spread the lubricant. A non-lubricated belt could stop suddenly when the safety tether cord is removed, or could trip the circuit breaker button on the front walking deck of the treadmill.
