Being an effective basketball player relies on many aspects, and shooting percentage is one of them. Footwork, dribbling and passing are important, but if no one makes any baskets, your team can never win. Increasing your basketball shooting percentage can seem relatively easy if you follow some specific steps that will get your mind and body ready for success.

Step 1

Locate your target earlier when you have the ball. Find the rim of the basket a little earlier than you presently do. Seeing the rim will enable you to get balanced and centered a little earlier and hit more shots. Work on it in practice until it becomes automatic.

Step 2

Hold your follow-through with a loose, relaxed wrist once the shot is completed. Following through will help maintain proper shooting technique, and allowing your wrist to flop will release tension through the wrist and arm, which will help with your shooting accuracy.

Step 3

Release the basketball as you are going up in your jump, advises Breakthrough Basketball. Let the ball roll off your fingers about 1 inch prior to the top of your jump.

Step 4

Land in the same spot you jumped from when you started the shot. This will allow your stance to be stable and balance strong during and after the shot.

Step 5

Take more shots from places you know are your strong spots. If you have more success near the free-throw line, maneuver yourself into that area more often to increase your percentages, says BasketballSuccess.com.
