Washing your skin every day with a mild cleanser is a basic must if you want beautiful skin, but other steps should be taken to get a good face and skin. Because healthy skin can be promoted from the inside as well as the outside, what you put in your body is just as important as what you put on your body. Get good skin by practicing good skin care habits, but see a doctor if you have an abnormal skin condition. According to Womenshealth.gov, certain skin changes can be the symptom of a serious health condition.
Step 1
Eat healthfully if you want a good face and skin. Include foods in your diet that contain vitamins A and C. Orange-colored foods such as carrots, pumpkins and cantaloupes are good sources of vitamin A. Sweet red and green bell peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, citrus fruits and broccoli contain vitamin C. Prevent dry skin by drinking at least six glasses of water throughout the day. Do not drink beverages that contain alcohol or caffeine because they can dehydrate your skin and leave your skin looking dull and wrinkled.
Step 2
Be mindful of the products you use on your skin. If your skin is sensitive, do not use harsh soaps or skin care products that contain alcohol. Purchase skin care products that indicate they are designed for sensitive skin. If your skin is acne-prone, use skin care products that have "noncomedogenic" printed on the package or label, as this is an indication that the product will not clog your pores.
Step 3
Resist the urge to get a tan and use sunblock on your skin--15 SPF or higher--whenever you go outside to protect your skin from sun damage and skin cancer. Too much sun can make your skin look old by giving you wrinkles. Do not skimp on the amount of sunblock you use and repeat the application of sunscreen at two-hour intervals throughout the day, every day you are outdoors for more than 15 minutes, even if the sun is not shining brightly. You should also protect your skin from the sun by wearing protective clothing and by staying out of the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Be particularly vigilant in protecting your skin from the sun if you recently used an alpha hydroxyl acid, or AHA, on your skin because alpha hydroxyl acids can make your skin more prone to sunburn. As stated by Erie.gov, skin cancer mostly results from exposure to the sun.
Tips and Warnings
- Apply gentle pressure to your skin at all times, and do not stretch your skin. Do not smoke to avoid premature wrinkles.
