Coed softball is a twist on traditional slowpitch softball in which men and women play at the same time. There are rule differences, however, that make the game slightly different than unisex softball. The rules are in effect to make the game fair, so that one team does not try to pitch around the men to get outs easier.
Lineups
In coed softball, the lineup must be made so that it alternates between men and women. This means each team must bat an even amount of players. Doing this prevents one team from stacking their strongest players (men or women) into one part of their lineup.
Fielding
When playing the field, men and women must be distributed evenly in the infield and outfield. There must be two men and two women in the infield, two men and two women in the outfield, and a man and woman pitching and catching.
Batting
As in regular slowpitch softball, there are three strikes and four balls. However, if a male is batting and gets walked, he is awarded second base. This is done to prevent the opposing team from walking the men to get to the women. Homerun limits and bat/ball regulations are provided by the specified league.
