One common skin problem that can quickly age your face is the appearance of dark circles under the eyes. Dark circles can be contributed to by a number of factors such as allergies, heredity, and thin skin showing the darker blood vessels beneath. There are several different options that you can choose from when getting rid of under-eye circles. Many of these options are available through your dermatologist.
Step 1
Schedule a chemical peel at your dermatologists office. Your dermatologist will apply chemicals ranging from mild beta hydroxy acids to more deep-penetrating products like phenol. These chemicals help detach the outer layer of skin causing the circles, allowing new healthier skin to replace it.
Step 2
Talk to your dermatologist about laser resurfacing treatments to reduce areas of hyper-pigmentation beneath the eyes. Laser resurfacing uses calibrated laser wavelengths to target the outer layer of eye skin. The laser removes hyperpigmented skin so that new smoother and more normal colored skin can replace it.
Step 3
Talk to your dermatologist about injecting dermal fillers into the area beneath the eyes. Dermal fillers, such as hyaluronic acid and collagen, plump the thin skin below the eyes to reduce the look of recessed hollow areas. This reduces the look of shadows which can produce dark circles. Get an allergy test if using a bovine-based collagen injection to prevent possible allergic reactions.
Step 4
Schedule an intense pulsed light session, or IPL, with your dermatologist. IPL uses high energy light waves to penetrate the skin below the eye and constrict blood vessels, states DocShop.com. Smaller blood vessels are less noticeable through the thin skin below the eyes, reducing the appearance of dark circles.
