Commercial acne treatments can be expensive and irritating to the skin. Before purchasing the latest product on TV or your drugstore shelves, you may wish to try a simple home remedy. Your kitchen and bathroom may already be full of acne-fighting weapons. Natural ingredients may also be less irritating to your face than chemical formulations. It is possible to create a cleanser, toner, mask or overnight spot treatment from ingredients you already have on hand.
Step 1
Mix 1/2 cup dry oatmeal, 1 tbsp. sea salt, and 1 tbsp. of honey with enough water to form a paste. Massage the mixture on your face in a circular motion with your fingers to exfoliate dead skin cells, remove excess oil and lightly moisturize.
Step 2
Boil a pot of water, adding lavender, tea tree or eucalyptus oil if you choose. Put a bath towel over your head and steam your face for 15 minutes. This helps open pores, making blackhead removal easier if necessary. Wrap a piece of tissue around both index fingers and gently squeeze the blackheads from your skin.
Step 3
Splash your face with cool water to close the pores.
Step 4
Cut a lemon or lime in half and squeeze the juice onto a cotton ball. Wipe the cotton ball over your face to tone your skin and dry up any excess oil.
Step 5
Apply calamine lotion to blemishes as a spot treatment. Calamine lotion can be left on overnight to dry your pimples without irritating the skin.
