Kix is a corn-based breakfast cereal primarily marketed to children. It is advertised as a healthier, low-sugar alternative to the sugary cereals available on supermarket shelves today. Parents of children with food sensitivities and allergies like that the product is dye-free and contains no wheat, soy or nut products. It is also OU certified for kosher families.

Serving Size, Fat and Calories

A single serving of dry Kix cereal is one and one-quarter cups, or 30 grams. A 12-ounce box contains approximately 11 servings. A serving has 110 calories, with only 5 of those calories coming from fat. Kix cereal contains 1 gram of fat and zero grams of saturated, trans, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats.

Cholesterol

Cholesterol is made by the body. It can also be found in animal products like meat, eggs and dairy. Kix contains no animal products, which means that it is a cholesterol-free food.

Potassium and Sodium

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, potassium and sodium are important in electrical, metabolic and cellular functions. Kix contains 190 milligrams of sodium and 60 milligrams of potassium.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are the starches and sugars which provide energy for the body. MayoClinic.com recommends healthy adults consume 45 to 65 percent of their daily caloric intake from carbohydrates. Kix cereal contains 25 grams of total carbohydrates. Dietary fiber provides 3 grams, sugars provide 3 grams and other complex carbohydrates account for the other 19 grams of carbohydrates.

Protein

Protein is found in almost every body cell, tissue and organ. MayoClinic.com recommends eating 50 to 175 grams per day, and states that meat, legumes and dairy are the best sources. Kix cereal only provides 2 grams of protein, which is to be expected from a corn-based food.

Vitamins and Minerals

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sets the standards for daily dietary intake of nutrients, including vitamins and minerals. Kix cereal contains 50 percent of the recommended amount of folic acid and 45 percent of the recommended amount of iron. It contains 25 percent of the FDA recommended daily does of thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B5, vitamin B12 and zinc. It also contains 15 percent of the daily dose of calcium and 10 percent of the daily dose of vitamins A and C.
