Red scars on the face can develop for a variety of reasons. Injury to the skin results in an increase in the growth of collagen, which is important to the skin-healing process, below the surface of the wound. According to Alford ENT and Facial Plastic Surgery, all scars start out red during the healing process. The redness is simply a result of an increase in blood vessels that assist in injury recovery. If you have red scars on your face, look to the "healing plant" for help.
Step 1
Cut a leaf from an aloe vera plant using a sharp pair of scissors. Cut the aloe leaf as close to the base of the plant as possible.
Step 2
Lay the aloe vera leaf on a clean cutting board. Cut the aloe leaf using a sharp paring knife. Slip the knife under the top layer of the leaf, slicing it in half lengthwise. Remove the aloe vera gel using your fingers and place it in a small bowl.
Step 3
Remove a pea-sized amount of aloe gel from the bowl and massage it into the skin of your face using your fingertips. Apply the aloe vera gel to your face twice a day.
Step 4
Store the unused portion of aloe vera gel in the bowl, covered with a piece of plastic wrap. Place the bowl in the refrigerator in between uses. Discard the cut leaf.
Tips and Warnings
- If you are not handy with a knife, you may want to opt for grinding up the leaf instead. Simply place the aloe vera leaf in a food processor or blender for grinding. The result will be a thick gelatin. Keep in mind that results will not be instant. Healing is a process that happens over a period of time that is different for each individual.
- Do not leave the aloe vera gel out on the counter in between uses. Refrigeration is required to ensure freshness. Do not rinse the aloe vera gel from your skin after application.
