Best Haircut for a Round Face

Many women with a round face look for hairstyles to minimize the roundness and give their faces a longer, leaner look. No matter how thin or heavy a woman is, she cannot change the shape of her face. Instead, the right kind of hairstyle can complement a round face and highlight the cheeks and feminine aspects of the curves.

Long

Hairdressers at Total Beauty say that shoulder-length or longer hair provides the most flattering styles for a round face because the hair will draw the eye away from the rounded edges. Long tresses should be texturized and layered around a round face because bulky hair can add even more roundness to the profile. A side part and wispy layers around the face add to the off-center appearance of the face. Angled bangs with long hair create the impression of a longer, more oval-shaped face. A long blunt cut that is curved around the face is another long style that is attractive on a round face, softening the edges and serving to camouflage the width of the face.

Styling

Long hair can provide the length to style hair in a variety of ways. Updos can help to lengthen the face when the volume is on the top. Using big rollers on top prior to pinning the hair up can give the face a longer overall look. The face can be elongated even more when hair is half up and half down, with curls and volume on top. Layers along the sides of the face that end at the cheeks and the jaw will help to create an oval shape. Parting hair in the middle balances out the face and is ideal for rounder faces, while a side part and bangs can bring out a more oval look.

Asymmetrical

Asymmetrical cuts work well for round faces because they create optical illusions. Hair that is cut shorter in the back and left longer around the face to fall between the chin and neck elongates the shape of the face. Bangs should be cut in a curved line and notched to create movement and an asymmetrical look, say the stylists at Hair Finder. A completely asymmetrical style that is short on one side above the ears and longer on the other side, to reach below the chin, is a great way to add angles to a round face. The long side can be feathered to soften the cut. A part can be in the center or on the short side.
