Glove conditioner softens the leather of your baseball glove, helping it conform to your hand and creating a pocket that will help you catch the ball. There are many baseball glove conditioners available. Most glove manufacturers make their own brand of conditioner. You can also use saddle soap, glove oil, neatsfoot oil or mink oil to condition your glove. Spending some time conditioning your glove when it is new will ensure that your glove conforms to your hand and has a deep, secure pocket for catching.
Step 1
Apply conditioner in a thin layer, using a sponge or cloth. Use a small amount; it is easy to apply more if needed, but over-conditioning can leave leather soft and spongy.
Step 2
Rub the conditioner into your glove with your fingers. Spread conditioner into the small crevices of the glove. Continue to rub until the conditioner is absorbed.
Step 3
Play catch with your glove. This will create a pocket in the palm of the glove where the ball lands.
Step 4
Place a baseball in the pocket of the glove and secure the glove around the ball with a shoestring or belt. Store the glove like this when not in use to help create the pocket.
