Playing games with your baby girl will promote healthy development and provide valuable time you can enjoy together, writes Theresa Foy DiGeronimo, author of "Baby Girls: An Owner's Manual." Playing teaches your daughter about the world around her and encourages her to grasp new concepts and learn new skills as she grows and changes. Introduce a few entertaining games into your playtime. Your little girl will delight in the attention and new experiences.
Explore Mommy's Closet
Show your baby girl the various items in your closet, and allow her to examine them to create an enjoyable game for both of you, suggests Baby Center. Go through your closet and pull out items such as silky scarves, soft sweaters and clothes with interesting and colorful patterns. Show each item to your little girl and allow her to feel them, wave them around or try to put them on. Give her some of your lightweight shoes and show her how to put them on her feet. As she gets older, she will delight in trying to look like Mommy.
Peek-a-Boo
Peek-a-boo is a classic baby game that will make your baby girl dissolve into giggles and squeals, says DiGeronimo. Place a lightweight blanket over your daughter's face and ask where she is. Suddenly whip the blanket off her face, and say, "Peek-a-boo" or "Surprise." Then put the blanket over your head and encourage her to try to pull it off your face. Another engaging peek-a-boo game is to hide your daughter's favorite doll or stuffed animal under a blanket to see if she can discover where it went. Peek-a-boo helps teach babies object permanence.
Stack and Dump
Your daughter will enjoy stacking objects and dumping things out of them, according to Baby Center. Give your baby girl a variety of unbreakable cups, such as plastic drinking cups or measuring cups. Fill a few of the cups with things that cannot pose a choking hazard, such as blocks, socks or water. Show her how to fill the cups and dump the objects into other cups. Sing songs while she fills and dumps. Show her how to stack the cups into tall towers and then knock them down. Another way to play is to place the cups upside down on top of the objects to see if your baby girl can find what is underneath.
