Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet is the original "cookie diet," and athletes and celebrities have testified about their success in losing weight on the diet. The diet is a simple combination of special diet cookies and regular meals. As you choose a diet, always consider whether it is healthy, whether you can follow it, and whether it will lead to the results you want. Consult your doctor before starting any diet or exercise program.

Background

Dr. Siegal developed his cookies and shakes in 1975 to help patients at his medical center lose weight. Since then, the diet expanded, and now the products are available throughout the nation. The diet claims to promote weight loss while controlling hunger because the cookies contain a special blend of protein. One benefit is its convenience, since you can order the cookies online and carry them with you to eat during the day no matter where you are.

Program

Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet is a three-step program. The first step is to figure out your calorie burn rate. Next, you use Dr. Siegal's Calorie Burn Rate Calculator to help you set a weight loss goal. You can use the Weight-by-Date Calculator to help you figure out how many calories to eat each day to lose a certain amount of weight by the date you want. Or, you can use the Fixed Calorie Calculator to find out how long it will take you to reach your goal weight if you eat a certain number of calories per day. The third step is to follow a calorie-controlled diet such as the cookie diet until you reach your goal weight.

Cookies

Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet Hunger Controlling Diet Cookies are the basis for the diet. To follow the diet, you eat six cookies per day plus one regular meal. The cookies contain a proprietary amino acid blend that claims to fight hunger. Each cookie has about 90 calories, 5 grams protein and 2 grams dietary fiber. The cookies come in oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, lemon and other flavors. If you prefer, you can use Dr. Siegal's diet shakes. These come in flavors like chocolate and vanilla, and each shake can replace two cookies.

Other Products

Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet program can include products aside from the cookies and shakes. The diet's daily multivitamin and mineral supplement provides 100 percent of the daily value for most vitamins and many essential minerals. It also has the antioxidants lutein and lycopene. A dietary supplement can reduce the risk for nutritional deficiencies while you are on a low calorie diet and are not meeting your vitamin and mineral requirements from your food. This diet also allows you to drink Vitazest brand water drinks that come in pomegranate or green tea with lemon and honey flavors.

Analysis

Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet combines diet cookies with a regular meal to promote weight loss. According to MayoClinic.com, you will probably lose weight on the diet because following the diet involves eating only 1,000 calories per day. However, you will likely regain the weight back once you go off of the diet. A balanced diet and exercise program are more likely to help you successfully maintain weight loss for the long term.
