Freckles and sunspots are dark pigments that appear on the skin as a result of sun exposure. Bleaching your skin can help reduce the appearance of these dark spots. According to Purdue University, some manufacturers add lemon juice to beauty products as a natural bleaching agent. When combined with heavy cream and turmeric, the lemon juice forms a thick cream, which moisturizes as it lightens.

Step 1

Spoon 4 tbsp. of gram flour (chickpea flour) into a small bowl. Add 4 tsp. of heavy cream to the gram flower.

Step 2

Combine the two ingredients using a wire whisk, forming a thick cream. Add 1 tsp. of lemon juice and 1 tsp. of turmeric to the cream. Combine once again using the wire whisk.

Step 3

Wash your skin as usual. Apply a pea-sized amount of bleaching cream to the dark spots on your skin using clean fingertips.

Step 4

Allow the bleaching cream to sit on your skin for approximately 15 minutes. Rinse the bleaching cream away with a warm water rinse. Blot your skin dry with a soft towel.

Step 5

Massage a moisturizing cream into your skin to prevent dryness after each bleaching treatment. Repeat the process every other day until the dark spots on your skin appear lighter.

Tips and Warnings

  • Cover any leftover bleaching cream in the bowl with a piece of plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator. The bleaching cream will keep for 1 week, at which time you will need to mix-up a new batch for further treatments. If you do not have access to lemon juice, substitute lime juice.
  • Do not apply the bleaching cream to your skin every day. Allowing a day of rest in between applications will help reduce irritation.
