According to MedlinePlus, heel pain may be a result of a fall or twist, along with repetitive heel pounding. Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the thick connective tissue in sole of the foot, which is attached to the heel. Many home remedies can help treat this condition.
Wam Compressions
Natural Health magazine says that using heat can help reduce pain. The magazine recommends filling a bottle with warm water or using a damp cloth and applying the product to the area of pain. The heat from the product relaxes muscles and joints, and encourages active blood flow. Do this about two times a day until the pain goes away. If continuous pain occurs, consult a health care professional.
Cold Compressions
The Mayo Clinic recommends applying an ice pack or a cold cloth over the pain for 15 to 20 minutes. People suffering from this condition should do this about four times day or after a small activity, such as walking. Also, an ice massage helps treat heel pain. Freeze a water-filled paper cup and roll it over the area of pain for five to seven minutes. Active ice massage also helps reduce inflammation.
Exercise
The Mayo Clinic says a low-impact exercise may help reduce heel pain. It recommends activities such as swamp swimming, cycling or a brief walk. People with this condition should be able to return to regular routines once the pain disappears.
