Boston, Massachusetts, is a beautiful city that has it all. Arts, recreation, sports, music, parks and amusements are only a few of the many activities you'll find throughout the year. You'll also find coffee shops, club, pubs and different kinds of festivals. Boston has lots of history, culture and magnificent architecture.
Arts
If arts interest you, Boston has several places that you can visit. The Boston Ballet has many ballet performances throughout the year, including "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "The Nutcracker." The Boston Symphony Orchestra/Boston Pops has vocalists, instrumentalists and conductors who give performances. Broadway Across America in Boston has many Broadway musicals and plays. The SoWa Art Walk located in Boston's South End is a place for artists, craftsmen and many other types of vendors. Every Sunday there's different artisans.
Recreation
Boston is home to many types of recreation. In the winter months, skating at Kendall Square is a fun activity. This skating rink also has a café. Wachusett Mountain is a ski area close to Boston. You can take the Wachusett train from Boston to Wachusett Mountain. Twelve islands make up Boston Harbor Islands, which have many activities such as boating, camping, fishing and hiking. It also has a ferry that will take you around the harbor.
Sporting Events
Different kinds of sporting events take place in Boston. The city has soccer games such as the Boston Breakers of Women's Professional Soccer. Soccer can be seen at Harvard Stadium April through September. The Boston Marathon is another event that takes place every April. Another sporting event is the Boston Blazers lacrosse team, which plays indoors.
Parks
Many parks are in or near Boston. The Charles River Park in Cambridge, Boston, has beautiful landscapes and the Charles River. Hopkinton State Park has 1,450 acres with beaches, trails for horseback riding, trails for walking and picnicking. This park offers programs during the summer months for environmental education. Boston Gardens is an old public park where you can relax. Its 50 acres and has a pond for children's paddling in the summer and ice skating in the winter.
Family Activities
You'll find a variety of activities in Boston for your entire family. The New England Aquarium in Central Wharf has more than 70 exhibits of aquatic animals. Lego Kidsfest is another activity for your family to enjoy together. This September event lasts the entire weekend and has interactive and educational activities. The Boston Children's Museum is a place where you can join your children while they play, explore and participate in hands-on-exhibits.
