The Malibu Mini-X Kayak isn't rated for any sort of whitewater kayaking. Instead, it's intended for use as a mini base for fishing, snorkeling, light touring or diving. The Mini-X is available with conventional hatches, which include storage for a bait bucket, but also comes with drop-in storage for a dive tank and a cup holder on the deck.
Design
The polyethylene Mini-X is available with up to three optional water-tight hatches and four flush-mount fishing rod holders. It comes with molded footrests that allow up to 48 inches of leg room.
Features
The Mini-X has side-carry handles that double as paddle holders. A dry seating area and self-draining trays help keep you comfortable, and the sit-on-top design simplifies getting out of a capsized Mini-X kayak.
Specs
The Mini-X measures 9 feet, 3 inches long and weighs 39 lbs. It has a depth of 4.75 inches from the waterline and measures 33.5 inches across at the beam. Its maximum load capacity, including you and gear, is between 250 and 300 lbs. As of August 2010, the Mini-X retails for between $600 and $700.
