Visiting Florida in your recreational vehicle can land you in one of many different unique areas of the state. Florida is so large and covers such a broad range of landscape, wildlife and attraction options that choosing a place to set up camp can be difficult. Consider several portions of the state and what they have to offer you and then decide which campground you'd like to pull into for your vacation or extended stay.

Old City Camping

Land in St. Augustine near the Fountain of Youth just like Ponce de Leon did in the 1500s. St. Augustine is the nation's oldest city where a walk around this historic town will reveal an abundance of interesting sites. Take a short hike from the KOA RV park on Anastasia Island and see the St. Augustine Lighthouse, fish for grouper or red snapper or enjoy one of the local museums.

Within your campground you'll have a chance to swim in the pool, ride paddleboats on a lake or just unwind as you cook up a healthy catch on your campsite grill.

Near Theme Parks

More than any other single area in Florida, tourists flock to Central Florida. Orlando and the Kissimmee area are the home to some of the nation's most popular theme parks. Walt Disney World, Universal Resort Orlando and countless other theme attractions are around every corner in this area, and you can set up your RV at a site nearby.

Look into RV campgrounds in the area, such as Ponderosa RV Park. This park offers paved sites and roads, shaded sites, a heated pool, cable television and much more.

Camping on the Cape

Set up your RV near a beach at Cape Canaveral where you can play in the surf and lay on the sand. Occasionally, if you time your trip correctly, you may even be able to watch NASA launch a satellite or other spacecraft into orbit from nearby Kennedy Space Center.

There is an RV park at Jetty Park where visitors can hook up their rig and take advantage of a nearby fishing pier, body boarding or swimming in the waters of the Atlantic.

Glades With Style

The Everglades is an unforgiving terrain with grassy marshes, high humidity, extreme heat and deadly creatures such as alligators roaming freely. However, camping in your RV in this area you'll find some of the most luxurious accommodations in the state.

Everglades Isle is a private RV park and resort located near Everglades City on the southwestern Gulf coast of Florida. This camping option is near the actual Everglades National Park but is more like a fishing and boating paradise than a swamp.

Keys Camping

Camping in the Florida Keys is an inexpensive and convenient way to see the island chain. RV resorts like El Mar at mile marker 5 along A1A in Key West, offers sites on the water and off the water and features fully paved roads and full hook up sites.

Key West is so small that you can tour the island by foot easily from your RV without ever getting in a car. Take the walk to Duvall Street for local foods and drinks like conch and stroll the beaches or take part in a fishing excursion.
