What To Look For

Female equality is great except when it comes to shavers. Ladies shavers are specially designed to work on curvier legs, shapely underarms and sensitive bikini areas to keep you free of nasty nicks and cuts. Look for shavers that have specially curved handles and pivoting stainless steel blades with bikini area attachments. Check for shavers that are sturdy and have easily changed battery covers. A power shaver should be more durable than a basic shaver you can buy at the supermarket.

Common Pitfalls

Battery power is the main distinguishing feature of a good ladies power shaver, but it should also have sharp blades. Several reviewers on Amazon complained that certain shavers were not sturdy or that the blades were not sharp enough. The best reviews went to shavers that were durable and had sharp razor blades.

Where To Buy

Amazon has the widest selection of ladies shavers with the most customer reviews, a good resource to determine which shaver is right for you. Sephora sells Bliss' Bikini Perfect Deluxe kit, which includes a Phillips shaver. Target sells a good selection of ladies shavers as does Walmart. Beauty supply stores, such as Sally Beauty, carry shavers but selection is limited. In summer 2010, Sally Beauty sold one ladies shaver.

Cost

As of summer 2010, durable ladies shavers could be bought for $20 to $110. There are some shavers priced below $20 but they are not likely to last. The good news about the cost is that you can stop buying razor blade refills, which can cost about $8 for three which can add up to $100 per year. You also save money on shaving gel but still walk away with smooth legs. A power shaver will also last longer than other razors.

Comparison Shopping

As of summer 2010, Panasonic's close curve wet/dry shaver was the bestselling ladies shaver on Amazon and Target. Another similar option is an epilator, which plucks hair with floating rollers rather than razors; hair takes about two weeks to grow back. Some women find that plucking the hair is more painful than shaving, but some epilator rollers can be more soothing than others.

Accessories

Some ladies shavers come with a bikini area attachment, which will save you money and pain from monthly salon bikini waxes. Some manufacturers even make smaller shavers especially designed for the bikini area.
