Oak Grove is a suburb southeast of Kansas City located in Jackson County. At the 2000 census, the town had just over 5,500 residents. The Kansas City area is known for its barbecue and is a destination travelers like to visit. Whether you are just visiting or a local, Oak Grove has many activities to amuse your youth no matter the season.

Soccer

Besides being fun, there are many benefits of playing soccer. Soccer is a sport that is easy to learn, builds muscle over time, and helps burn calories. The Metro East Soccer Club is an organization for youth in the Oak grove area. This league is open during the fall season to youth of any age and skill level.

Swimming

Swimming is not only a sport for enjoyment but is also a valuable skill and a good form of cardio exercise. A good activity during the summer for the whole family is swimming at the Oak Grove Pool. For those who want lessons, they are available and certified through the Red Cross. Daily tickets may be purchased or season passes are offered.

Hiking

Located in nearby Grain Valley is the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center. The nature center is a wooded forest area with ponds and creeks. The park has picnic areas, a pavilion, wildlife exhibits and hiking trails. Hiking is good for burning calories and toning muscle. The park offers you the opportunity to take in some local wildlife while benefiting from exercise from hiking on one of the six trails. The trails range in length from half a mile to three and a thirds mile in length. In addition, one trail has access for the disabled. The trails are marked and maintained.

Youth Tennis

Tennis is a sport that even younger youths can enjoy. Through the parks and recreation, department tennis camps are offered at Webb Park. The Younger Division is for children six- to 10-years-old. The basics of the game as well as technique will be worked on. The Older Division is for youth ages 11 to 16. You will have a review of the game and work mainly on mastering skills of the game. For both camps, you will need to bring your own racquet.

Little League Football

Little League Football programs provide an opportunity for you to learn and play football. Here you come together to learn the fundamentals of football. Not only will you be developing your football skills but you also have a chance to make some new friends.
