Bayonne is a city located in Hudson County, New Jersey. The city is considered to be a peninsula and offers plenty of activities for people to partake in, including golfing. Though there aren't any public golf courses within Bayonne's city limits, there are several courses in surrounding communities within New Jersey and in bordering New York.
Scenery
Many people would be surprised to learn that Newark, located nine miles from Bayonne, is home to a scenic golf course. The Weequahic Park Golf Course is located in Weequahic Park--Newark's oldest public golf course. The 18-hole course is a traditional layout amongst tall trees and slight undulations throughout the course.
Difficulty
The Hendricks Field Golf Course, located in 13 miles from Bayonne in Belleville, will present some difficulty to golfers throughout its 18 holes. The course, designed by architect Charles Banks, features a handful of challenging holes, including the par-4 fourth hole. The fourth hole has several bunkers grouped together at the center of the fairway. The sixth hole will challenge golfers because of its green being almost completely surrounded by bunkers. Another potential difficulty is the 10th hole where a small stream traverses the fairway.
Features
Most golf courses showcase the same amenities like a driving range and putting green. The Galloping Hill Golf Course, located 13 miles from Bayonne in Kenilworth, is no different. However, Galloping Hill is different in that it opened up a new state-of-the-art learning center in Spring 2010 that features a 54 stall driving range, 40 of which are covered and heated. There is also a 40,000 square foot practice area featuring nine holes of practice golf, video instruction capabilities, monitors and a knowledgeable staff.
Design
Designed by John Van Kleek, the Dyker Beach Golf Course-- located 16 miles from Bayonne in Brooklyn, New York--is considered a traditional layout with lush well-manicured fairways and greens and a multitude of tall trees. The tees and fairways were designed with both a rye and blue grass, while the greens contain bent green grass and a poa mix.
Amenities
The La Tourette Golf Course--located seven miles from Bayonne in Staten Island, New York--features a pro shop equipped with top-of-the-line equipment and apparel for every golfer. Other amenities include a full service snack bar, where golfers can purchase a quick snack or drink after their round of golf.
