You will be able to find almost any form of fitness programming or exercise regimen in Seattle, Washington. Fitness clubs in Seattle are numerous and diverse. Many centers focus on specific forms of exercise, making for more specialized and concentrated expertise. Seattle has world-renowned yoga centers and Pilates institutions. Seattle also has high-quality aquatics and weight-training centers.

Yoga

Yoga relaxes the body and mind. It is a good strengthening and cardiovascular exercise. The Center for Yoga of Seattle is the only yoga institution in Seattle that is a nationally and Internationally recognized BKS Iyengar Yoga Study Center. BKS Iyengar yoga is one of the most respected and recognized forms of yoga in the world. Urban Yoga Seattle and Samadhi Yoga offer different styles of yoga in Seattle.

Fitness Classes

Several fitness clubs in Seattle offer fitness classes. From hardcore indoor cycle classes to more relaxed cardio dance classes, there is a class and fitness level for everyone. Seattle Fitness, located downtown, offers high-intensity cardio classes for those who are already physically conditioned for intense exercise. Some of their classes include Extreme Boot Camp and Vicious Cycle and Cardio Challenge. All classes are 55 minutes of intense sculpting, toning, cardiovascular exercise. The Training Center is one of the original strength and conditioning centers in the Northwest. Fitness classes offered by The Training Center range from body alignment classes to senior strengthening classes, targeted at senior citizens. The center also has an after-school fitness program for children.

Aquatics

Swimming is one of the best cardiovascular and fat-burning exercises available. Because of water's therapeutic nature, even those struggling with back pain or neck injuries can swim to improve their health. Pro Sports Club in the Bellevue neighborhood of Seattle, has four types of swimming pools in its aquatic center. An Olympic-sized lap pool, a training pool, a recreational pool and a deep water pool offer numerous opportunities for water activities and exercises. Some other fitness centers with aquatics programming include Seattle Athletic Club and the Stroum Jewish Community Center.

Pilates

Pilates is a form of exercise that concentrates on strengthening, elongating and toning the body. Pilates Seattle International is a premier location in Seattle. Opened in 1993, Pilates Seattle International was the first center in Seattle to bring Pilates to the Northwest. The organization also trains and certifies Pilates instructors. Other Seattle-based Pilates centers include Mind & Body Incorporated and Vitality Pilates.

Weight Training

There are training centers in Seattle that specifically work with weights as a method of targeting, sculpting and fat burning. LIFT Fitness Training uses only free weights and other functional props and techniques. Instead of running on a treadmill or doing a circuit rotation of weightlifting machines, LIFT trainers practice cross-fit workouts, kettle-bell training, power-lifting and core tightening to tone muscles, strengthen weak spots and burn fat. The Training Center trains professional athletes, and the athlete training program is open to anyone. It also has an adult training program using weights and functional exercises.
