Par 3 Courses
The variable factors in Myrtle Beach's Par 3 golf courses are the tees, water hazards, club and cart rental, night lighting, the need for starting times, and of course, the fees. Most have a driving range, chipping green and practice bunker. Some courses have a dress code requiring a shirt with collar or no tank tops and halters. Snack bars, food service and pro shop times change with the season and economy in the area.
Northern Grand Strand
Harbour View is on US-17 in Little River. It has a well-manicured layout with woods, undulating fairways and sand bunkers. Water comes into play on the first and ninth holes and is a recurring menace on the 14th. This course follows a classic design with an easier, welcoming first hole. Then reality hits with the tougher second hole. Like a Scottish links course, the holes go straight out, then return to the clubhouse at nine. The 10th hole goes out again, turns, then comes back to the 18th green at the clubhouse. While this is a great walking course, you can rent a cart.
Central Myrtle Beach
Cane Patch Par 3 has two nine-hole courses--Yellow and Blue--with mat tees. There are long and short tee locations on most holes. There is one long water hole, but it has a shorter tee for those not confident about carrying the water. Midway Par 3 has three nine-hole courses, each with different features. The Red course is the longest, with an ocean view. It and the Blue course are lined with trees. The Blue course has a water hazard that comes into play frequently. The Yellow course is wide open but has grass bunkers. There are no sand traps on either course.
Southern Grand Strand
The Dove Par 3 course is near the southern end of the Grand Strand. Its greens are more reminiscent of championship courses--large with varying levels. There are no water hazards, but water is incorporated in the landscaping with fountains and waterfalls. Tupelo Bay is similar to Harbour View at the north end. The course has areas with some side-hill lies and shade trees. Water is a threat on one hole, and the entire course has sand traps to catch an errant ball.
